Vacancy: Independent Governing Body Member

NHS Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group has an exciting opportunity for a new Independent Governing Body member with significant expertise and experience in the field of finance and business acumen.

This is a key role in ensuring that the CCG acts in the best interest of the health of its population; commissioning high quality services to improve patient outcomes and secure the best use of public money in line with the NHS Constitution.

NHS Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group is the largest clinically-led commissioning organisation in England. Buying health services for 1.3m people in Birmingham and Solihull, with a budget in excess of £1.9 billion.

We have our bold ambition to ensure the best possible and world class healthcare outcomes for everyone in Birmingham and Solihull, whilst upholding our values as a CCG.

Our priorities are to:

  • Tackle and reduce health inequalities
  • Rebalance investment in health care from crisis management to prevention and early action
  • Achieve closer integration between health and social care.

You will be joining the CCG at a time of developing an Integrated Care System across Birmingham and Solihull.

The Independent Governing Body Member will ensure probity, scrutiny and assurance on all aspects of financial control and management. Bringing an external and independent perspective; contributing to the setting and delivery of the CCG’s statutory priorities whilst ensuring good governance.

As a member of the Governing Body the Independent Member has a shared responsibility with all other Governing Body members for ensuring the CCG:

  • Exercises its statutory functions and general duties effectively, efficiently and economically, with good governance and in accordance with the terms of the CCG Constitution
  • Achieves representation and performance management of member practices;
  • Has in place and implements a programme of work that takes into account wider health and social issues and the principles of the NHS Constitution
  • Has the interest of patients and the community at the heart of discussions and decisions.

You will be required to show a special interest in the Birmingham and Solihull local community, for example living or working in the area and able to demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge of the area.

This post is a three-year appointment commencing from 1 April 2020.

Remuneration is £12,500 per annum with a time commitment of three days per month.
