We are seeking a Healthcare Scientist to work in our Visual Electrodiagnostics service in the Clinical Measurement and Engineering Unit of Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. The service receives adult and paediatric referrals from across the north of England and reports over 1200 patient visits annually. The service operates out of the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne with a satellite service provided at Sunderland Eye Infirmary.

The post-holder’s primary responsibility will be to carry out visual electrodiagnostic tests on patients and to report them technically to the service lead. As this service is highly specialized, we expect to provide training for the role. A contribution to the Department’s wider activities and its research, development and training activities is also encouraged. The post-holder is expected hold, or to work towards and achieve, relevant professional registration, usually as a Clinical Scientist. Consequently, excellent patient handling and inter-personal skills, and an enthusiasm to extend one's knowledge and skills, are essential.

Applications are invited from candidates with a first or second class degree in a relevant science or engineering subject. The ideal candidate will have experience of contributing to clinical services and research and development projects, a good knowledge of anatomy, physiology and statistics, and be eager to work with adults and children in a busy clinic.

Although this vacancy is advertised as a full time post, we would consider applications from candidates who prefer to work part time. Travel between the two service bases is expected.
