Cedar House Day Nursery is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Nursery Manager, to lead our award winning workplace nursery.

Cedar House Nursery has been rated as Good by Ofsted and is located within the grounds of the South London & Maudsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which is one of the leading hospitals in mental health.

We are a 69 place nursery day nursery offering care to children aged 3 months to 4 years. We open for 52 weeks of the year from 8am to 6pm, with all staff working a shift rota.

The nursery manager must be an inspirational individual who is dedicated to the continuous improvement of standards for children and their families with proven leadership and management skills.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a commitment to working in partnerships. They will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the Statutory Framework for Early Years and the EYFS to be able to self-evaluate, identifying priorities and set targets to improve practice.

Candidates must hold a minimum of an NNEB or equivalent or Foundation Degree in Early Years with a minimum of 2-years management experience with experience of Ofsted inspections.

Key responsibilities;

  • Be responsible for the operational management of the Day Nursery, ensuring compliance of the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage and the EYFS to monitor and evaluate provision.
  • Provide effective leadership and support to all directly managed staff.
  • Participate in all aspects of the delivery of the service and undertake duties of other staff when necessary.
  • Ensure the full inclusion of children with Special Educational Need and that Codes of Practice are adhered to.
  • Implementation of Day Nursery Policies and Procedures, reflecting the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage and Trust
  • Continually assess staff performance and conduct in order to develop and maintain the highest professional practice, by undertake individual supervisions and formal performance appraisal in line with Trust policy.
  • Appropriately manage issues including disciplinary, grievance, poor performance and sickness absence in accordance with Trust procedures.
  • Purchase resources and equipment ensuring financial expenditure is within agreed limits. Appropriately develop and manage all resources within own control.
  • Work closely with the Children & Families Manager for the management of the nursery budget; ensure financial expenditure is within agreed limits.

Person Specification:

  • Experience of managing an effective staff team
  • Experience of developing and implementing early years policies and procedures
  • A comprehensive understanding of EYFS for children aged 0-4
  • A comprehensive understanding of Child Protection and Prevent procedures.
  • An awareness of Equal and Diversity issues.
  • Clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to maintain records and write accurate reports.
  • Ability to manage budgets.
