Employer:
(SP) Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust
Department:
Custody Suite
Location:

Salary:
£30,401 to £37,267 pa (pro rata)

We are delighted to announce that we have been rated as a “Good” organisation by CQC and our Adults Services were rated ‘Outstanding’ for caring.

We're looking for experienced and enthusiastic practitioners to join our team in West Yorkshire and Humber.

What's the job?

We deliver transformational models of physical and mental healthcare into police custody suites. You'll be helping us provide healthcare to ensure the safety and dignity of patients in custody, and guarantee their fitness to be detained, to be interviewed and to attend court.

Your duties will include:

  • conducting clinical assessments such as mental health assessments
  • identifying and implementing appropriate interventions
  • collecting forensic samples
  • providing advice and guidance to custody staff regarding the care of the detainee whilst in police custody referring to other services as appropriate.

There are posts to work within the resilience team in West Yorkshire (covering North Yorkshire, York, if required).  You'll be required to cover any of the suites within the West and North Yorkshire area and working as clinical shift lead in Merrion House, Leeds.

Also posts in the Humber region covering Hull and Grimsby Custody suites.

This is a 24-hour service requiring shift work, and shifts are allocated according to a rota.

We offer a thorough training programme that is tailored to the individual's experience and needs.

Who are you?

You'll be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a background and professional registration in RGN, RMN or paramedics. You're flexible, in order to deal with a wide variety of presenting conditions in multiple situations and bases, and able to work under pressure and in a challenging and fast-paced environment.

You'll be dynamic, innovative, and committed to delivering a safe and effective service and a high standard of healthcare. As you'll be working with non-NHS professionals within your suite as well as colleagues across the region, highly effective communication skills are a must. And you're empowered by working independently but able to maintain a sense of team and your professional identity.

You'll have extensive experience of working in a relevant speciality, such as General Practice, A&E, walk-in centre, substance misuse services, prison healthcare or mental health liaison service in an A&E (RMN’s must also have relevant physical assessment experience) or in a General Hospital setting. The UK Association of Forensic Nursing recommends a minimum of 3-4 years’ experience post-registration, however we consider each applicant’s experience on an individual basis.

This role requires full police vetting. Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test.
