Our new Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.

This vacancy is advertised under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 section 7(2) para 3.14(b) - Genuine occupational qualification. Due to cultural and religious reasons patients may request an interpreter of the same sex.



Q1. Can you speak another language apart from English fluently? If so please state which language(s).

Q2. Do you hold any qualifications in the language(s) you can speak fluently? Please state the qualifications (if you have studied in a foreign language please state this too.

Q3. Do you hold any interpreting qualifications? Please state the qualifications. Community Interpreting level 2/3 or equivalent is minimum requirement or if you are studying towards this prior to commencing work.

Q4. Do you drive and have access to a car or live local to the 4 Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust? You may be contacted at short notice and will need to be available immediately.

Daytime availability is essential and pay will be according to the following rates:

Daytime (6am to 8pm) rate: £8.50 per hour min 2 hours

Plus mileage and parking only paid if sent to additional appointments continuing after the first appointment e.g. no mileage or parking to and from home to the main/nearest hospital

Please state clearly on your application form the language you are applying for as failure to declare your language will make your application unsuccessful.

Only apply if you live within the Greater Manchester area as mileage is NOT paid to and from home and travel time is not paid at all.

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust wishes to update the bilingual bank of sessional workers to provide a comprehensive interpreting service to its hospitals in Oldham, Rochdale, Bury & North Manchester. The service will operate daily, out of hours, weekends and bank holidays as required. Full daytime availability is compulsory in order to be shortlisted.

You will be responsible for providing a confidential, efficient and effective interpreting service to health professionals and patients/clients in both the hospital and community settings on a sessional basis (as and when required) according to the specified time either daytime or out of hours and weekends.

You must be available for training and orientation days. Possession of an interpreting qualification is required however substantial experience preferably in a hospital setting is essential. A car driver with access to a car is desirable.
