The Trust Boards of Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital have agreed to explore plans to merge and form one NHS Trust. Under the umbrella of the single NHS Trust, both hospitals will retain their identity and individual hospital names. All key services will remain on both sites and will be managed as single teams across the whole Bedfordshire catchment area. This will bring many benefits for patients including much improved continuity of care

What will I be doing in my new role?

We are looking for experienced or non-experienced qualified nurses who have an interest in working within the Day Surgery environment and who possess good communication and collaborative skills.  You would need to be a committed individual able to work within the multidisciplinary team of surgical staff, specialist nurses, and reception staff, to ensure effective delivery of a high quality patient experience.  You will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and adapt to the ever changing environment that is a day Surgery Unit

 

What about the department I will join?

 Tavistock is a progressive Day Surgery unit where we work with many specialities including

  Urology, Orthopaedic, Breast, Gynaecology, interventional Radiology, Vascular. ENT,OMF, Plastics, General Surgery and Podiatry.

 There will be chance to gain or expand on experience in all of these specialities as well as working closely with members of the wider multidisciplinary team

 

  Tavistock is also part of the Trust escalation plans. When there are extreme winter bed pressures we will open to adult surgical in patients. Experience can also be gained in this field. There are plans for the Unit to go to 7 day working in the near future

 

 

 

 

The successful candidate will fulfil all of the essential components of the person specification.

 

Although we have a very strong learning and development function, we appreciate you will need to have acquired some skills and experience from your career to date in order for your time with us to be a real success. Registered Nurse (part 1)

The hospital has grown significantly especially within the last 30 years. It now provides a wide range of services which include beds for Care of the Elderly, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Neonatal, Obstetrics, Oncology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Vascular Surgery, Breast Surgery and Urology. A modern Accident and Emergency Department includes a 6-bedded observation ward.  The Critical Care Complex provides both High Dependency and Intensive Care beds to a maximum capacity of 12 beds.

Probationary Period
