This is an exciting time for our staff, following a recent review of healthcare services in Dorset which will see major changes to the way healthcare is provided in our region. As one of the two acute NHS providers in the east of the county, our services will be closely linked to those provided at the Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We’re working in close collaboration to deliver excellent emergency and planned care over the two sites, for the people of east Dorset.


We are seeking to appoint a band 5 registered nurse to join our established team of pre-operative assessment nurses. The staff nurse will require post registration experience which will need to include surgical experience.

The Pre-operative Assessment team assesses adults due to be admitted for surgery for a range of elective and semi elective procedures including general surgery, ENT, OMF, gynaecology, trauma and orthopedics.

The role will require the suitable candidate, following training and assessment, to be competent in taking patient medical, surgical and anaesthetic history, and assess patient's suitability for surgery and anaesthetic and refer for investigations further assessment as appropriate. It is therefore essential that the candidate has exceptional communication skills and the experience and ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team.

Pre-operative assessment clinics run Monday to Friday between 08.30 and 19.00 hours. Shifts will be allocated to cover these hours therefore flexibility with working pattern is essential.

Please note: if this job requires you to have a DBS check to enable you to properly fulfil the requirements of the job, on appointment you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check and this amount will be reclaimed from your salary.
