The Royal Lancaster Infirmary, part of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay, is on the doorstep to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. The Trust is set in some of the most remarkable surroundings in the UK, facilitating an abundance of outdoor activities. There are many OFSTED ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ state primary schools which feed into excellent secondary schools. There are Boys’ and Girls’ grammar schools which consistently rank in the top 5 in the North West as well as Lancaster University, ranked the best in the North West and 8th in the Country. The M6 and rail network provide easy access to Manchester and other major city centres.

The Radiology department at the RLI carries out a full range of investigations, including General work, CT, MR, U/S, Fluoroscopy and Radionuclide Imaging supporting our busy Emergency Department, Out-patients, In-patients and Theatres. We are equipped with SECTRA PACS and RIS. We also have our own dedicated Radiology Day Care Unit for patients undergoing interventional procedures and biopsies.

We are now looking for an enthusiastic MR and/or CT trained radiographer to join our friendly team to undertake a variety of MR and CT examinations efficiently and effectively for our patients; adhering to best practice of radiographic technique. Working within the CT and MR department at the RLI provides excellent opportunities to gain experience in a wide range of CT and MR imaging procedures including trauma, MSK, cardiology, neurological, vascular, paediatrics and oncology. The department is equipped with one GE 64 slice and one GE 16 slice CT scanner and one Siemens Aera 1.5T MR scanner undertaking a wide range of MR imaging.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

  • BSc Radiography or equivalent
  • Valid Radiographer registration of the HCPC
  • Previous experience of MR and/or CT scanning
  • To have successfully completed training to undertake IV cannulation for contrast scanning is desirable.
  • Expertise to ensure the appropriate triage, booking and examination of patients.
  • A high level of professionalism and technical standard of work, complying with relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Proven knowledge of the requirements of a cross sectional Radiographer’s role in the care of patients, their visitors and carers, and to colleagues
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • A flexible approach to work, with the ability to work contracted hours as three 12.5 hour shifts across 7 days per week and cover Bank Holiday duties. Fixed days can be considered.

This is a full time, 37.5 hour post but applications from individuals who wish to work part time hours are also welcome.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
