The East & North Herts NHS Trust, are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 6 Pre- operative Assessment (POA) nurse to join and help support the POA service on a one year fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the quality of healthcare in Hertfordshire.

The role of the Preoperative assessment team is dedicated to the reduction of cancelled operations on the day of surgery and to the improvement of the patient’s experience before, during and after their admission by meeting their individual needs. The assessment, identification and subsequent management of risks related to surgery can also be directly related to the reduction of complication rates and mortality.

We are looking for a conscientious, caring individuals with sound experience in Preoperative Assessment. You will be expected to conduct Nurse-led clinics and to manage your own caseload autonomously. You should have a flexible approach to working and be willing to continuously learn and update your knowledge of preoperative assessment. Strong customer care skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders involved in preoperative assessment are extremely important.

The successful candidate should also demonstrate a desire and willingness to contribute and be involved in the further development of the Pre-operative assessment service delivery and appraisal. The successful applicants will be expected to work on a rotational basis including Saturdays and evenings.

As a band 6 nurse; and role model, you will be working within a team of committed and hardworking nurses with a high level of professionalism to holistically assess the individual care needs of all patients attending the East and North Herts NHS Trust to ensure they are managed safely and effectively throughout their surgical pathway.
