Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Following retirement of a long-serving post-holder, we are seeking a new Consultant in Palliative Medicine, to work 8 PA’s alongside the Trust’s existing Consultant in Palliative Medicine.

You will be based at North Devon Hospice. In addition to responsibilities in our 7-bedded inpatient unit, you will also have sessions supporting the hospital and community palliative care teams.

As well as enjoying the benefits of being employed by Northern Devon Healthcare Trust (NDHT), the role is supported by the regional network of Palliative Medicine Consultants, such as those based at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with whom NDHT has a formal collaboration.

Our county is frequently rated as one of the best places to live in the UK, and offers a fantastic mix of cultural and outdoor activities.

If you would enjoy working in a truly integrated care model across hospice, hospital and community settings, as well as delivering education to our healthcare colleagues, then please get in touch.

For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Hasib Choudhury, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, on 01271 311 642 (hospital team’s direct line).

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
