The Gastroenterology Team are looking to appoint two Consultant colleagues who are committed to delivering high-quality services across the breadth of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

The new post-holders will join a team of eight existing consultants supported by 1 SAS doctor, 3 Advanced Nurse Practitioners and 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists. Our department has a reputation for being friendly and supportive with particularly good working relationships and there is capacity for a wide variety of sub-specialty interests to be accommodated and developed. Specialty interests of current Gastroenterologists include Bowel Cancer Screening, IBD, Hepatology and ERCP / Therapeutic endoscopy.

The Trust operates a 7 day bleeding service and therefore the job plan for these posts include a 1 in 5 GI bleeding rota that incorporates a 24/7 bleed service at weekends whilst on-call.

The posts will be based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary; however, travel to our other sites to carry out Endoscopy Sessions / Clinics will be required.

The Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School and Health Education England North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree programme.

Consultant Gastroenterology Physicians must hold full GMC with a licence to practice and be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining your CCT award at the time of interview.
