Online applications are invited to apply for a full time locum consultant in neuro-intensive care and neuro-anaesthesia commencing asap. This post is fixed term.

This post is to support the increasing complexity and caseload of neurointensive care. The job plan will predominantly involve consultant delivered seven day care on the neurointensive care Unit. In addition there will be neuro-anaesthetic sessions to replace in part, a retiring consultant colleague. These posts are subject to terms and conditions of service determined by the UHS NHS FT Board.

University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is the eighth largest Foundation Trust by income in the UK. It is the tertiary referral and teaching centre for a large area of the south of England and the Channel Islands and caters for most surgical sub specialties.

It has been completely redeveloped over the last 30 years with over 1100 beds for inpatient services, outpatient clinics and diagnostic facilities in modern accommodation. The site also houses the Trust headquarters and most of the support services for the Trust.

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) became a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) in April 2012. This has had a significant impact on work load in Neuro ICU.

In the two years to the end of 2019, the Trust has opened/will open 3 new operating or procedure theatres which require Anaesthetic cover. One of these is a second neuro angiography suite to facilitate the development of a Mechanical Thrombectomy Service. The others are a new paediatric theatre, and an endoscopy suite.

UHS is currently working on a large extension of its theatre provision with a multi-storey extension planned to provide eight new operating theatres including one serviced by an MRI scanner. This complex is on track for opening in 2020.

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
