George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust opened in 1948 and provides a range of elective, non-elective, surgical, medical, women’s, children’s, diagnostic and therapeutic services to a population of more than 350,000 people.

The hub of the Trust is located on the outskirts of Nuneaton and its services cover a large footprint, including north Warwickshire, south west Leicestershire, and north Coventry. We also provide primary and community services across Coventry, Warwickshire and Leicestershire.

The Role

We are looking for band 5 nurses to join our existing teams. We can offer a friendly environment and provide support in your clinical development giving you the opportunity to work for an organisation supporting its local community.

Experienced staff are welcomed and will have opportunities to develop their careers, in return for the commitment to provide high standards of care.

Newly qualified staff are welcome; the Trust runs a full preceptorship programme, with the support of a full time facilitator, support is also offered for new to acute staff

Accident & Emergency Department

Our A&E Department are looking for enthusiastic staff that want to join our busy but supportive learning environment, there is exposure to a variety of conditions and minor illness’ that come through the door, In house training is available to support you in treating these patients efficiently and effectively utilising clinical skills such as cannulation and venepuncture. Additional training is given on A&E study days which equip staff with the knowledge of seeing and treating minor illnesses. We have senior clinicians working in the department 24/7 investigating, stabilising and delivering care to up to 180 patients a day

Acute Medical Unit- AMU.

Our AMU is an acute medical unit taking patients from a variety of admitting sources. The aim of the unit is to assess, investigate and treat patients admitted within a 72 hour window before either discharging or admitting for further care. It encompasses a new GP admission unit and frailty assessment beds.

There is exposure to a range of medical conditions; the area is supported by various members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Respiratory Medicine.

Elizabeth ward is an acute respiratory ward dealing with many respiratory long term and acute conditions but also ITU step down patients. Non- invasive ventilation is provided on this ward.

We are expanding our current Non-invasive ventilation service with the introduction of some new machines so are seeking new staff to join us at this point. Full N.I.V training will be provided to staff on the area alongside any other additional training required.

Working closely with ITU we will be offering a period of time spent rotating into the intensive care unit to aid the understanding of transition of care for the patient when they step down to the respiratory ward- Tracheostomy care will also be based on the ward

We welcome newly qualified practitioners and can offer a fully supported preceptorship programme with a dedicated facilitator. On the ward we will offer an intense introduction to respiratory care alongside other study relevant to medical conditions.

Our Surgical areas are recruiting:

We are currently looking for highly motivated staff and those who are looking for a new challenge to join our existing teams within the Surgical Directorate.

Our dedicated teams work cohesively to ensure they continue to provide effective, efficient, safe and high quality care for all our surgical patients.

Alexandra Ward is our Elective and Emergency Surgical Ward, the environment offers a high level of nursing care to surgical patients and is utilised frequently for step down patients from ITU.

Nason Ward is our Emergency Orthopaedic Ward caring predominately for frail elderly patients, this is why the ward team ensures patients feel welcome and they continue to ensure they provide both patients and their relatives with a positive hospital experience.

The Surgical Directorate will be able to offer a 2 year rotational programme covering all clinical areas to allow new staff members to gain experience in acute / elective surgical and orthopaedic nursing which will include pain management, acute illness management and other speciality topics.

All wards / units provide excellent learning and development opportunities to both newly qualified staff and to registered nurses new to the area, our Trust offers a full preceptorship programme with support from a dedicated Practice Facilitator.

Successful applicants will be asked to demonstrate an ability to provide high quality and safe nursing care which is driven by the patient experience and evidence-based best practice.
