An exciting opportunity has arisen for anaesthetic / recovery practitioners ODP or registered nurse to join our busy Ophthalmology theatres, minor operations unit and medical retina suite. The department is part of a forward thinking, regional ophthalmic unit which undertakes many innovative new treatments and procedures.

We have some world renowned surgeons within our clinical team that are driving forward the boundaries of ophthalmic surgery. Our corneal team have recently been involved in the trial of laser assisted corneal graft surgery which was reported in national newspapers.

Our multi disciplinary team are instrumental in the delivery of high quality care with many complex and new procedures being developed and advanced within the department.

We cover six day working with an on call system in the evenings and Sundays so flexibility is essential.


To provide a high standard of theatre practice for patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery, this will include monitoring and evaluating their care.

To provide skilled assistance to medical staff during the anaesthetic, surgical and recovery phases of the patient journey through the department.

To have good communication skills to work closely and effectively within the multi disciplinary team.

To be able to assess the emotional needs of patients, particularly those undergoing surgery under a local anaesthetic.

Treatment of medical retina patients within the hospital setting and undertake the role of coordinator to ensure correct treatment pathways.

Help to maintain accurate patient records including manual and electronic data entry during the patient journey through the department.

Assemble and dismantle theatre equipment according to trust health and safety and infection prevention policies and procedures.


We are looking for a motivated, hard working and enthusiastic team player who enjoys the challenge of working in a busy environment.

This position is open to post registration nurses/ODP and also newly qualified nurses. If you’re interested in this position as a newly qualified please apply via our newly qualified adult nurses advert. Previous Ophthalmology experience is an advantage, but not essential. Full training in all aspects of the service will be given to the successful candidate. The post will encompass participation in anaesthetic, recovery and possibly scrub duties dependent upon skills and experience.
