Moorfields is one of the world's leading eye hospitals, providing expertise in clinical care, research and education.

Our main focus is the treatment and care of NHS patients with a wide range of eye problems, from common complaints to rare conditions which require treatments not available anywhere else in the UK. We treat people at our main hospital base in London's City Road and at 32 satellite facilities in and around the capital, which enables us to provide expert treatment closer to patient’s homes. Moorfields has contracts, making us a truly national centre for eye care.

We are also a major postgraduate teaching centre and a national centre for ophthalmic research involving, with the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, the largest ophthalmic research programme in the world.

In addition, we directly manage two commercial divisions: Moorfields Private and Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai.

Moorfields Eye Hospital's runs regular courses in various specialist areas, many of them in association with our academic partners at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and provide extensive sub-specialty training in all types of modern ophthalmology. The post holder is responsible for the assessment, management and care of patients in the General Ophthalmology service. They will assess patients and implement and evaluate treatment provision ensuring that the care provided is consistent and of a high standard throughout the patient care pathway.

At times they will have management responsibility for the co-ordination of teams within the department and General ophthalmology clinic and the supervision and education of junior members of staff. They will ensure that all patients are seen and assessed by members of the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will be a key member of staff, participating in the development of care for patients. They will work independently/autonomously and are accountable for their own professional actions. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, always ensuring that the care they provide is compassionate and safeguards the dignity and well- being of all patients.

The post holder will rotate internally in order to gain experience, skills and broader knowledge of the whole pathway of the Ophthalmic Surgical Service between our Pre Assessment, Day Care Unit, Theatre and Outpatient’s Clinic. The rotation intervals will be discussed and agreed with the Unit Sister.

This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed. The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.
