We are currently seeking a Lead Speech & Language Therapist to join our Specialist Brain Injury Neurological Care and Rehabilitation Service at The Huntercombe Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre - Nottingham, located in the town of Hucknall, 7 miles from Nottingham City Centre and just 2 miles from the M1 Motorway.

We are a specialist centre providing both short and long term rehabilitation and support for adults with either a brain injury or complex neurological condition.

This exciting and dynamic role will place you at the heart of a clinical team, working closely with patients and other healthcare professionals.

As the Lead Speech and Language Therapist you will be assessing and managing service users with communication or swallowing disorders. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will be required to maintain high standards of clinical care whilst taking responsibility for the development and management of the SLT service and staff. You will take take an active role in wider service development.

As the Lead Speech and Language Therapist your main duties will be:-

  • Providing specialist management of communication and swallowing disorders for clients with brain injury and neurological disorders
  • Managing the SLT service in relation to staffing, service and organisational issues
  • Ensuring accurate documentation of assessment, treatment and outcome measures across the whole department are maintained
  • Initiating and taking a lead role in the development of SLT department policies, guidelines and service developments
  • Leading and undertaking research and audit activity within the SLT department and across the service at the request of the Head of Department
  • Initiating and taking a proactive role in the multi-disciplinary team service developments
  • Ensuring the provision of a high quality SLT service and it’s place within the multi-disciplinary team

To join The Huntercombe Group as a Senior Speech and Langage Therapist you will:-

  • Educated to Masters Levelor Masters level/ Post Graduate modules supplemented by specialist accredited training and experience in specialist field(s), or other demonstrable and equivalent post graduate learning.

  • Be a registered member of the HCPC

  • Be a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists with a current license to practice

  • Dysphagia experience / accreditation, including management of complex cases

  • Experience of tracheostomy management.

  • Have demonstrable experience of clinical supervision of students and others

  • Be an excellent communicator - both written and verbally

  • Have demonstrable experience of developing and delivering training

  • Be an excellent team member with the ability to assume leadership responsibilities

  • Have highly developed interpretive skills

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills
