Working in partnership with our service partners, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital and Bedford NHS Hospital Trusts, we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.


We are pleased to be offering this opportunity to join our exceptional team as a Senior Biomedical Scientist and Training Officer in the Bacteriology Department of this world renowned London Teaching Hospital. We are a progressive service providing a comprehensive range of investigations which include bacteriology, parasitology, mycology and surveillance of infections for King’s College Hospital and the local community. The Bacteriology Department receives over 350,000 samples per year and uses the CliniSys WinPath LIS; experience of this system would be an advantage. We currently use BacTALERT, Vitek MS, Vitek2, Vitek Compact, Cepheid GenXpert and DS2 with a view to introducing further automation. The department is UKAS accredited.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating training and provide support and assistance to the Service Delivery Manager and Operations Manager in all aspects of training. They will also lead a team of Biomedical Scientists and SATO support staff in a section of the laboratory, rotating to different sections every 2 months. Applications from experienced and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists, with a passion for clinical excellence will be warmly accepted.

We currently provide a core service which includes 08:54 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and 1:4 Saturday shifts from 08:00 until 13:00. It is expected that successful applicants will participate in our out of hour’s services, after completion of the appropriate training and competencies.
The successful candidates will hold an appropriate IBMS recognised degree and have an appropriate level of specialist post - registration knowledge and skills.
