Telephone Triage opportunities for General/Paediatric/Mental Health/Care of the Elderly and Palliative Nurses  

We are looking for registered Clinicians with multi-agency working experience to join our Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) service.

This is an exciting opportunity for those who are looking to develop their knowledge, skills and experience in this key area of patient assessment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team signposting and supporting the local community.

Who are we?

HUC provides accessible and high quality Integrated Urgent Healthcare services to nearly 3 million patients across a range of counties, including Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Bedfordshire and Essex.

When patients are ill and need the right medical attention, they use our NHS111 serviceto access medical advice, assessment and treatment. We also provide a range of other healthcare services to support patients including Out of Hours GP service and running urgent care centres.

The Role:

We are looking to recruit reliable and passionate Nurses to join our motivated, friendly and hardworking team of clinicians based in Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Essex to support the smooth running of our Telephone Triage Service

  • Telephone assessment prioritisation of all patients who contact the Out of Hours Service with urgent medical needs. Giving appropriate advice to patients and carers, in managing their urgent care needs and if necessary arranging referral of patients to a range of other services
  • The majority of work will be carried out as part of the telephone triaging service working from our bases. Working from home opportunities will be also given to those who fulfil HUC’s home working criteria.
  • The service is predominately an out of hours service and we require staff to be flexible but we will consider a range of hours including fixed shift patterns, nights or evenings and weekend work
  • You will be responsible for undertaking clinical assessments of patients and/or their carers/relatives, with empathy and sensitivity, guiding them to the right services to ensure the appropriate level and location of care. Clear and effective communication skills, verbal, written and electronic are therefore essential.
  • You will have effective and accurate IT skills and must be able to demonstrate an ability to assimilate information quickly and effectively to ensure a quality outcome for patients

Qualifications and training

  • Essential:

Registered Adult Nurse, or dual registration Adult & Mental Health or Registered Sick Children Nurse

Telephone Triage experience

Proven evidence of working in a fast moving environment, with the ability to recognise minor and urgent illness
