This is an exciting opportunity to join the Barnet Early Stroke Discharge Team working with a MDT including other occupational therapists, physiotherapy, psychology, speech and language therapists, rehabilitation assistants, and nursing colleagues. This post will have a role in developing the occupational therapy practice and delivery of evidence based Early Stroke Discharge rehabilitation packages for people returning home following initial treatment in hyper acute or acute stroke units serving the Barnet locality.

The ESD team work as part of the wider Barnet Integrated Adult Community Services. And can include a 9 month rotation with the community therapy and falls team. The ESD team has a role to reach into acute units to provide advice and support to stroke patients, carers, and referring therapists. There is also a role in coordinating the 6 monthly stroke reviews service and participating in a national stroke audit process.

The post is also supported by a Band 7 Highly Specialist Neuro-Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist (the team leads for ESD), and the Operational Manager for Barnet Integrated Adult Community Services.

It is essential that you have current HPC registration and recognised qualifications as an Occupational Therapist. You should have 2 year's experience including working with stroke or patients with a neurological condition. Can clearly demonstrate neuro-rehabilitation skills for specialist assessment and treatment of clients with stroke. Experience will include working in multi-professional teams and across a range of different agencies to achieve the optimum outcome for service users (including working in the community).

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive and innovative approach to service development and have a commitment to

multi-disciplinary team working/skill sharing. You will also have the ability to support and develop more junior staff and the responsibility to deliver training and use all relevant research and audit data to ensure the service meets the evidence base requirements. It is essential you have a current UK driving license, and access to your own vehicle for driving in the community setting.
