IT Development Specialist

Band: 7 or 8a depending on experience

Location: IT Department, The Rodney Road Centre

An opening has arisen within the Management Information Systems (MIS) team who are responsible for the support, maintenance and development of the Trust’s data warehouse and strategic reporting solution.

We are looking for someone with experience in developing and maintaining Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) packages. You will have used commercial tool(s) to achieve this and have experience of completing one or more large projects. You will also have excellent SQL querying skills and knowledge / experience of tuning SQL queries to improve their performance. You will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of designing and building solutions based on data warehouse best practice methodologies.

This is more than just a back room job. Being part of a small team you will need to have excellent communication skills, as well as being a technical wizard. Working with non-technical clients will be an important part of this role, so you will need to be able to speak and write to people using language they can understand and relate to.

All data warehouses have their challenges when it comes to importing data from source systems. The ideal candidate will be a determined innovator who uses their initiative to build creative solutions to difficult problems. You will also be expected to work on a number of projects / tasks concurrently, so an ability to keep your eye on the ball and manage workloads is important.

Our data warehouse is built using SAP Data Services, SAP BusinessObjects and Microsoft SQL Server. As a developer you will be expected to become an expert in all these technologies. A willingness to learn and develop your knowledge, skills and expertise is vital. Support and on-going training will be provided as required.
