This is an exciting opportunity to join the Public Health team at Swindon Borough Council and contribute to a wide range of programmes designed to improve the health and wellbeing of the local population and reduce inequalities.


This is a specialist role that requires epidemiological skills and expertise in gathering, analysing and interpreting health and social care related data. It is also a strategic role that requires management (people and projects) and leadership skills and an ability to develop and promote public health intelligence in different arenas.


The Public Health Intelligence Manager will play a key role in ensuring that strategic and commissioning decisions are based on the best possible evidence. This will involve leading on the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) which assesses the current and future health, wellbeing and social care needs of the population. Producing the in-depth needs assessments on a diverse range of topics will require the collation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of information and intelligence. The post holder will also have responsibility for meeting the public health intelligence needs of the local authority and partners including NHS. This will involve service evaluation, performance monitoring (e.g. the Public Health Outcomes Framework), health audits and profiling of the local population. This requires the ability to create high quality outputs in a range of formats, e.g. reports, charts, tables and presentations alongside excellent communications skills and an ability to build relationships with colleagues, senior manager, partners and councillors. Expertise in Office tools, especially Excel, is a must have and experience of R, Power BI or Tableau would be a plus. However, even more important is the capability to interpret data and information and use it to tell a story and influence decision making.
