Our clinical facilities are excellent, as we have invested in state of the art theatres, Critical Care, Emergency Department and our Childrens Wards (to name but a few). We have also invested in our people, ensuring we have the right number of the right people delivering care, fostering a culture of compassion, support and excellence.

Following an NHSI initiative to establish 29 Pathology networks across England the University Hospital of North Midlands is currently working closely with Mid and East Cheshire NHS Trusts to establish a Pathology network across Staffordshire and Cheshire.

We have a team of Community Paediatricians and Specialist Nurses, supported by administrative and clinic support staff. The department is based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe and at Wharton Healthcare Centre in Winsford, and we currently have a vacancy for a medical secretary, working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, from 09:00 – 17:00. Whilst the post is based primarily at Leighton Hospital, service need may require you to work at our Wharton base from time to time.

This is a demanding role which requires excellent organisational skills. Candidates will be expected to manage doctors’ and nurses’ caseloads and diaries, scheduling appointments and arranging medical sessions in schools and clinics throughout the area. The post involves considerable audio typing and the successful candidate will need excellent audio typing skills.

Applicants should be highly motivated and have the ability to work on their own initiative, but also be happy to work as part of a team. Previous secretarial experience is essential, as is a calm, methodical approach to the job. Considerable liaison with other departments and agencies, and with parents or careers, is an integral part of the role and good communication skills are vital.
