'At Wessex Academic Health Science Network (AHSN), we connect the NHS, universities, research, innovators and small businesses to help drive innovation into the health service, which benefits patients, saves the NHS time and money and helps to grow the local economy. We are seeking a Programme co-ordinator to support the co-ordination and the delivery of the innovation adoption programme. This is a two year fixed term contract.

Now is a great time to join the AHSN. We’re at an exciting time in our history: we’ve got a very successful six years under our belt and an exciting future ahead – working to grow and support health innovation across Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Southern Wiltshire; and also working with our fellow AHSN colleagues, NHS England, NHSE improvement and the office for life sciences as we look to have national impact for NHS patients in England.

Adoption of any innovation and its widespread adoption across the NHS can be a complex and challenging process. Making it happen is very fulfilling – it can transform the lives of patients, energise and enthuse staff and create a platform for further innovation.

The AHSN works with patients, healthcare professionals, industry and researchers to support the introduction and scaling of innovation in the NHS in Wessex and, on occasion, beyond Wessex.

A critical part of this work involves creating time-limited support for the adoption of a particular innovation. This could be a piece of new equipment, a new patient pathway, a new type of role within a healthcare team. At times it can involve all of these and more, for example a new piece of equipment may require changes in the roles of healthcare professionals, changes in the flow of work and changes in what patients do to manage their own care. The innovation might be in a hospital, in a GP practice, in a care home or in a patient’s own home or across a number of different care settings.

We have created a small innovation adoption support team that works flexibly to support the adoption of specific innovations across the NHS in Wessex.


Wessex AHSN is based in Southampton Science Park in Chilworth, in a bright modern office. Easily accessible from the M3, M27 and Southampton parkway train station, the location offers free parking with a café on site and 27 acres of the science park site are designated a protected conservation area.

Wessex AHSN is keen to ensure that staff have a successful work/ life balance and offers flexible working dependant on the requirements of the role.


Wessex AHSN is a Trust hosted organisation based in Chilworth.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and only an hour on the train from central London. The New Forest National Park and the beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than those in London, 13 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted and 13 nearby green spaces to enjoy.
