About Croydon Health Services

Croydon is a busy, exciting and diverse place to work. The borough has one of the youngest populations in London and continues to grow. Croydon Health Services cares for local people at Croydon University Hospital, Purley Memorial Hospital and in clinics and people’s homes all across the borough.

We are a very close-knit and friendly organisation where everyone of our 3600 members of staff is valued. We strongly believe that our employees are our greatest asset and so through Listening into Action – our way of engaging staff - we empower everyone at any level to initiate and bring about real improvements in our care.

As a Trust, we are striving to be at the forefront for how the NHS is trying change and working in partnership with others to join up services for everyone, from the very young to the elderly.

We offer many flexible and part-time working opportunities and all of our employees can enjoy a range of staff benefits, including parking, a gym, an active health and wellbeing programme, an on-site nursery and a cycle to work scheme. We value diversity and promote equality of opportunity.

We particularly welcome applications from black, asian and minority ethnic candidates as there is an under-representation at senior level within Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

Band 5/6

Do you want to work in an award winning maternity department and be part of our extraordinary team?

Croydon University Hospital is a busy diverse maternity unit delivering 3800 women a year. Our women come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds, but irrespective of care pathway our dedicated multi- disciplinary teams ensure that high quality women centred care is at the forefront of care provision.

As part of the maternity transformation plans we are in the process of reconfiguring our maternity services as we embark upon implementing our continuity of carer pathways.

Our vision is clear, we want midwives who are integrated both out in the community and hospital setting, who will work seamlessly between the two to facilitate continuity of carer throughout the whole childbirth continuum. The integrated model will involve allocated set community clinics and working a shift either in our newly revamped Lucina Birth Centre or Delivery suite. We recognise that teamwork and partnership is key to the success of our Maternity Unit and as such we have opportunities for passionate and motivated individuals that want to be part of our maternity transformation. Also as a pioneer site you will be supporting and enhancing personalisation and choice by utilising the ‘my maternity journey’ brochure. Our better births journey is just beginning, but if you would you like to offer women continuity of carer; and to support women in every part of their pregnancy while developing your own skills in your midwifery practice - this is the maternity department for you!!!

Croydon University Hospital has much to be proud of and our current achievements this year demonstrate how we are at the forefront of contemporary and dynamic midwifery practice.

We have been recognised by three independent midwifery organisations and our awards to date include:

The British Journal of Midwifery’s ‘Midwife Of The Year Award’ Given to our lead midwife who provides exemplary care for our vulnerable and marginalised women.

‘Midwife Achievement Award’ at the London Maternity and Midwifery Festival. Whereby the innovation of one dedicated midwife has improved the care that is provided nationally to deaf parents. And our wonderful Crocus homebirth team leader won 'Emma's diary mums' midwife of the year for the London region at the Royal College of Midwives awards.

Interview date: 19th September 2019
