We are looking for an Assistant Engineering Technician/Hospital Porter to join our team.

Purpose of the Role

To work as part of the Engineering & Estates Team, providing a comprehensive and cost effective engineering service within the hospital ensuring compliance with all National Legislation and Spire Policy.  To be 'on-call' for out of hours maintenance emergencies on a rota basis.  To provide efficient cover for the Hospital Porter Service to staff and patients in all areas of the hospital. 

Accountabilities 

  • To assist in implementing a comprehensive, cost effective, planned and preventative maintenance programme for all building services, utilising the network Computerised Maintenance Management System.
  • To receive, review, prioritise and take action on maintenance requests, from all departments and maintain records of work undertaken on CMMS to provide an in-house day to day maintenance service.
  • To assist and undertake maintenance/testing of plant/equipment, ensuring compliance with current HTM recommendations/PPM schedules and manufacturers instruction keeping all necessary records.
  • To provide out of hours emergency on-call service on a rota basis.
  • To assist the Engineering Technician with external contractors providing specialist services and manage those contractors whilst on site in line with Spire Policy.
  • To work in accordance with Spire Policy, Health & Safety and COSHH legislation.
  • To feedback contractor performance issues to Engineering Technician.
  • To be flexible in working approach with a personal and co-operative attitude being maintained at all times, using initiative where required to resolve issues to enhance the quality of service provided.
  • To attend all mandatory training, both in-house and off site, on an annual basis, to include Health & Safety, Fire, Manual Handling, COSHH, E-Learning and the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • To keep adequate stock levels of gases as specified by the Engineer & Estates Manager and to change gas bottles as required by Senior Nursing staff. 
  • To assist/provide cover for the hospital portering service.

Person Profile

Qualifications, Training & Experience:

Essential

  • Experience of maintenance work, preferably with knowlege of building services
  • Clean Driving Licence 
  • Willingness to undertake specialist training in specific areas 
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent frontline customer service skills
  • Ability to problem solve 
  • Empathy with vulnerable and sick patients

Desirable

  • Moving & Handling/COSSH/Medical Gas Safety basic training
  • Experience of updating records to computer systems
  • Awareness of Health & Safety, Hygiene and Infection Control
  • Experience of handling chemicals

The successful candidate will have excellent customer care skills and take pride in delivering a quality service.  They will have good communication and organisational skills and be able to work without supervision.  

This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, plus on-call rota system
