An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to work for Norfolk Community Health and Care, contributing to multidisciplinary diagnostic assessments with Autism Service Norfolk. The successful applicant will work with adults without learning disabilities who are referred for diagnostic assessment across Norfolk. The role will be based at Norwich Community Hospital and within a warm, passionate and motivated team.  All complete assessments are conducted by a minimum of two clinicians and include a developmental history, individual assessment and information from education, health and social care when possible. As a team we complete complex assessments and consider other presentations such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, social issues, and attachment issues that may be impacting upon the individual’s presentation.   

The post holder will work closely with other professionals, attending regular team meetings and receive regular supervision and to ensure the post holders development and provision of a high quality of service.  Prior to commencing assessment the post holder will receive highly specialist training in the essential assessment tools. 

Since being set up in 2010 Autism (formally ‘Asperger’) Service Norfolk has been met with increasing demand.  The aim of this post in the short term will be to support the service to reduce the waiting list that has been established over many years.  Although very specific and focused in the short term it will be a good opportunity to develop specialist skills in the assessment of Autism in adults. In the longer term the service is working closely with the local commissioner and the All Age Autism Partnership Board to explore the needs of local people with ASD and improve services so that they are able to meet the needs of the local ASD community. The post holder will be encouraged to develop links and to work jointly where appropriate with overlapping services including mental health, learning disability, education and charities.

The post is open to Band 6 applicants who have achieved the Essential criteria section of the Job description.
