Locum Consultant in Genito-Urinary Medicine and HIV

Fixed Term - 6 months

The Department of Genito-Urinary Medicine and Contraception in North Devon & Exeter is seeking to appoint a full-time/part-time consultant in GU and HIV Medicine. This post is fixed term for 6 months in the first instance with the view to extend.

The opportunity to create this post has arisen from expansion of clinical work of the department, and to come into line with RCP establishment recommendations.

The department has well established clinical bases in Exeter and Barnstaple. The base clinic in Barnstaple is located in Barnstaple Health Centre, where it is co-located with North Devon Contraception Services.

The Trust provides a wide range of district hospital, community health and social care services to over 160,000 residents across North Devon and to thousands of visitors the region receives every summer.

Located in the South West of England, North Devon is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. It extends from the edge of Exmoor in the east to LundyIsland in the west and the TawValley in the south providing contrasts of moor land, downs, valleys, rugged cliffs and golden sandy beaches, thus providing a range of interests and activities.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion on the GMC’s Specialist Register (or expected entry within six months from the date of interview).

For an informal discussion, prospective candidates are welcome to contact Dr Elizabeth Claydon, (GU Consultant), on 01271 341568 or Hayley Back, Head of Specialist Services on 01392 356903. Informal visits are encouraged.

We actively encourage applications from all sectors of the community regardless of sex, age, racial origin, religion, belief or disability and we are committed to Equal Opportunities.

We thank you for your interest in us and look forward to receiving your application.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
