Yes, this is an opportunity to use all of your clinical and interpersonal skills, and develop new skills and work with a unique population group who need your nursing skills. We work with children both boys and girls aged 10 - 18 that are on remand and don't know what their future holds, Young people that are on trial, young people that are sentenced, sometimes for life, for some it is the first time in a secure setting, for some it's their 3rd or 4th. We also work with some of the most vulnerable children in society that are placed with us for reasons of safety. Every person we work with could be someone's d ad / mum, son / daughter, husband / wife, brother / sister(even though they are young). Our job is not to judge, our job is to provide exceptional care with kindness and compassion. Health and wellbeing is one of the pathways to reducing re-offending. It could be through your interactions that changes the way a young person thinks about his future, thinks about his / her health needs, and feels about themselves and others. You could make a difference.

It takes a very special, dedicated, resilient and caring nurse to provide care in such an ever changing, dynamic environment and you will be joining likeminded exceptional healthcare professionals.

Working alongside the CAMHS and Substance misuse teams affords us the benefit of being able to work in a truly holistic manner, responding to the needs of both physical and mental well-being in partnership. Additionally, you will work with prison departments, including all the wing staff, education, safer custody, probation.

This post will provide you with an opportunity to work across a variety of areas within two different secure environments using existing skills and developing new ones. You will be involved in seeing all young people that are new into the secure setting. Skills will involve assessment, reassessment, risk assessment and management of a variety of health needs

You will facilitate nurse led clinics, administer medication, immunisations and vaccinations, triage and treat minor illness / injuries, attending emergency situations and delivering age appropriate health promotion sessions to this complex, yet rewarding client group.

Experience of working with this client group and of working within a secure environment is desirable although not essential as a comprehensive induction package is provided.

HMP WYOI has excellent onsite facilities, with free parking, two staff gyms and a coffee shop. It is situated very close to the A1(M) w ith easy links to Leeds, Harrogate and York. As a city Leeds is a vibrant and diverse place to live and work. With recent openings of the First Direct Arena, Trinity Shopping Centre and Victoria Gate Centre Leeds is a great location for retail in the UK. As for well-being, Leeds is a very active city with numerous parks, gyms and nightlife and being close to the Yorkshire Dales, Leeds is an ideal place to balance city life near to the countryside.

If you are successful in being offered a position which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The level of check required is dependent upon the position that you have applied for. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48.83 or Standard £30) from your salary. There will be no charge if you are enrolled in the DBS Update Service.
