Specialist Dementia Nurse Opportunities

June 2019 saw the launch of a countywide Admiral Nurse Service in Lincolnshire. The new service is creating exciting job opportunities for nurses who would like further professional development in dementia care and to work with neighborhood teams, in the community and hospices.

We are looking to recruit to 1 more full time Admiral Nurses to work as part of this county wide service. Secondment opportunities will be considered; however line manager approval is needed to support this.

The Lincolnshire Admiral Nurse Service is hosted by St Barnabas Hospice and will provide specialist dementia support for families when times are difficult and challenging by providing expert guidance and practical solutions. For more information about this exciting and valuable role, please go

The service is a two year pilot that is being jointly commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council, Dementia UK and St Barnabas. The partnership will work together with key stakeholders to develop the service and support its implementation across the county.

The post holder will support the development of expert and evidence-based nursing care and support for people with dementia and families in Lincolnshire.

The primary focus of the Admiral Nurse role is to deliver person –centered and relationship- centered dementia care within the community and operational areas of St Barnabas Hospice to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia.

The post holder will:

  • Deliver evidence-based dementia care and support improvements in the experience for families affected by dementia.
  • Provide support/education to colleagues, other health and social care professionals/providers in dementia care.
  • Support the delivery of key quality and performance indicators relating to dementia care, including the experience of families.
  • Apply the Admiral Nurse Competency framework - at a specialist level, including person-centered care, therapeutic skills, and triadic relationships, sharing knowledge, best practice and critical reflective practice

This post is delivered in partnership with Dementia UK who will support you to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse through monthly clinical supervision and practice & professional development. You will become part of a national network of Admiral Nurses; you will have the opportunity to access a post-graduate course in dementia nursing and develop professionally informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.
