Consultant Geriatrician

Applications are invited for a Consultant post in Geriatric Medicine at the Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust, based mainly at the Southport site, but travel to our Ormskirk site may be required.

With a large elderly population we have seen a rise in emergency admissions to hospital, the appointee will be joining an expanding clinical service that already comprises an enthusiastic progressive team of geriatricians. This post is designed primarily to support current acute hospital geriatric care.

We are currently re-designing our Geriatric Services which will be based around best practice principals with regard to acute medical care of older people. We are at the early stages of developing our service so you can have a key role to play in shaping this service by joining our existing team for elderly services comprising experienced geriatricians, discharge co-ordinators, nursing staff, and rehab staff all of whom are dedicated to provide good quality patient care.

The acute geriatric clinical activity may include one or more of the following activities: acute geriatric on-call work (based on the Acute Frailty Unit), geriatric base ward activity, outpatient geriatric care plus educational and leadership roles to support the development of this forward thinking department.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date and have a certificate of completion of specialist training.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced DBS will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit.
