Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology


Do you have a keen interest in Gastroenterology? Are you interested in gaining experience working with a friendly Gastroenterology team? If the answer is yes, then we have just the job for you!
You will be joining our department as a registrar, whilst this post is not accredited as a training post, you will receive all the same benefits as training registrars at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 12 month fixed term position, including participation in a registrar on-call rota with out of hours work.
The post holders will mainly look after inpatients with Gastroenterological disorder admitted to St Peter’s Hospital, under the supervision of Gastroenterology consultant. They will also support the ambulatory care unit, delivering paracentesis to patients with liver disease and other specialist treatments for IBD. In addition, the post holders will collaborate with one or more specialist services, including inflammatory bowel disease, artificial nutrition or hepatology, attend specialist clinics and multidisciplinary meetings, observe and train in endoscopy procedures and contribute to the team research and audit portfolio.
The department of gastroenterology at Ashford and St Peter’s provides a comprehensive service to the local area (410,000 population) with over 3,000 new outpatient referrals to the department and over 12,000 endoscopy procedures per year including interventional procedures, EUS and ERCP. There are currently six consultant gastroenterologists providing the full range of gastroenterological care. Gastroenterology is part of the Medical Directorate that incorporates a range of medical specialties including Cardiology and Respiratory medicine.
You will be allocated an educational supervisor and clinical supervisor, and will receive the same level of teaching on ward, in endoscopy and within clinics as equivalent trainees. Ashford and St Peter’s also provides medical careers events including interview practice, high quality induction and local induction.
