THE HILLINGDON HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

LOCUM CONSULTANT MICROBIOLOGIST

Applications are invited for a 10 session Locum Consultant Microbiologist post.

This is a Locum post in Microbiology to the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (10 Programmed Activities). This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join the two existing Consultants in providing a comprehensive, high quality, efficient and cost effective clinical microbiology service to the hospital sites and the local community.

The microbiology laboratory is located on the Hillingdon Hospital site where the consultant team are based but the consultants provide daily support and an infection control service at both Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites for the Trust. We provide pathology services for the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre but infection control for the Cancer Centre is provided by East & North Herts Trust.
The Trust serves a local population of 350,000 in Hillingdon Borough as well as providing diagnostic and infection control services to Hillingdon, Hounslow and Ealing CCGs. The microbiology laboratory has full CPA accreditation and provides a full range of microbiology services, handling approximately 275,000 specimens per year. There is a well-established infection control team covering both Trust sites.

The post attracts an on-call availability supplement.

The Trust is participating in a NW London Pathology Modernisation Programme that will see the creation of a central organisation with its own management board. The participating hospitals are: Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust; The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS FT; Chelsea and Westminster NHS FT.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC). It is expected that the appointee will hold the FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent training and experience.
