West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust Endoscopy service has an exciting opportunity for an established Nurse Endoscopist who is forward thinking, motivated and committed to join our expanding team within our JAG accredited Endoscopy service. We perform over 20,000 procedures a year ranging from routine diagnostic procedures to more complex therapeutic procedures. Watford is a regional upper gastrointestinal cancer resection centre, and West Herts is a designated centre for Bowel Cancer Screening.

The Endoscopy service in West Herts comprises six state of the art Endoscopy rooms across two sites which include Watford General Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital. Both units are fully JAG accredited. We have a well-established team of Nurse Endoscopists who work closely with the Gastroenterology Consultants and wider MDT to deliver a range of services, including diagnostic endoscopy, nurse led clinics, oesophageal manometry and Bowel Cancer Screening.

This position is offered at a band 8a for a fully JAG accredited Nurse Endoscopist independent in Flexible Sigmoidoscopy/ Colonoscopy. JAG accreditation in Gastroscopy is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate requires excellent organisational and communication skills, and must be committed to providing high quality care. It will be necessary to undergo assessment to be an accredited Bowel Scope Endoscopist as this is an integral part of this role. The post holder will be expected to carry out diagnostic, therapeutic, screening and surveillance endoscopic procedures as well as cover nurse-led colo-rectal telephone assessment clinics.

As a member of our Endoscopy Team you will be responsible for meeting both national and local targets as the service expands and develops in-line with both JAG and BSG requirements. As a flexible team player, you will primarily be based at Hemel Hempstead Hospital, but expected to work across both our sites as part of your job plan with sessions allocated in advance.

You will be supported by an excellent team committed to providing an outstanding patient-focused service. Using advanced clinical skills, you will be assessing and diagnosing, treating and prescribing care plans for our patients, and we are keen to recruit someone with a particular focus on lower-GI who is either already accredited, or who is keen and working towards becoming an accredited Bowel Scope Nurse Endoscopist.

This post will also be considered as a developmental post starting at a band 6 with progression up to band 8a once the necessary knowledge, skills and accreditation have been obtained. This person would ideally have a background in Endoscopy, Gastroenterology or Colorectal nursing.

Our Endoscopy service is based across 2 sites covering 6 rooms. It is essential for the candidate to hold a full UK driving licence as cross site working is required for this post. The successful candidate will have a passion for delivering high quality services and be flexible to work in a dynamic endoscopy environment.
