In September 2017, we announced that our Trust Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust and 2Gether NHS Foundation Trust (2gether) were planning to join. From October 2019, we hope to be one organisation providing integrated community mental health, physical health and learning disabilities services. The new Trust will be called Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.

We are already working closely together but the benefits we really want for our communities can best be achieved if we become a single trust, delivering outstanding integrated physical and mental health care.

The aim of the proposed merger is to improve our services and ensure we are providing the most appropriate and seamless information, support and treatment for people with mental health issues, physical health problems or learning disabilities. It will mean we can help people as a ‘whole person’, not just separate conditions or symptoms. As healthcare professionals in the new Trust, you will be able to ensure better outcomes for service users which we know is really important to all clinical, medical and support professionals alike. For colleagues, it will also provide more opportunity to develop and realise your potential.

While our overall name will become Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, services in Herefordshire will be given their own, separate, name, which will be Herefordshire Mental Health and Learning Disability Services.

The details of the merger will be finalised early September and the Trusts hope to be one organisation from 1st October 2019.

Both Trusts are high performing with ‘good’ CQC ratings and strong financial foundations.

Trainee Nursing Associate


Hours: 37.5 hours per week

2 year fixed term training contract including shift patterns

Gloucestershire Care Services are looking to recruit experienced Healthcare Support Workers to this exciting opportunity to develop new skills & knowledge and become a Registered Nursing Associate. This new role will deliver quality hands on care for patients, whilst helping and encouraging them to look after their own health across a variety of settings. This role bridges the gap between Healthcare Assistants and Registered nurses and will offer a future opportunity to progress into nursing roles.


This is a developmental role and Trainee Nursing Associates will work towards progression to the Registered Nursing Associate role through the successful completion of a Trainee Nursing Associate apprenticeship, which includes the attainment of a Level 5 Foundation Degree qualification.


The Trainee Nursing Associate will be based as an employee with Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust and be enrolled to the apprenticeship programme with the University of Gloucestershire for a two year duration. The planned programme (subject to change) incorporates day release to University, employment in a specific setting, and placement rotation to experience working in other healthcare services to gain a wide appreciation of health and care settings.


On successful completion of the programme you will be able to apply for a Registered Nursing Associate position. This opportunity is suitable for existing Healthcare Assistants/ Support Workers who meet the following requirements:


1) Previous experience of working as a clinical support worker within a healthcare setting, ideally within the NHS

2) GCSE/O level English and Maths Grades A-C or equivalent Level 2 functional skills (Certificates will be required at Interview – please see attached document for further details)

3) Level 2 or 3 diploma (NVQ) in a health related subject or equivalent

4) The Care Certificate

5) Committed to continued employment and building a career in healthcare within Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust on completion of the course

6) Be able to travel countywide and work a full range of shifts i.e. early, lates, nights, weekends, bank holidays


Successful applicants will start on the Trainee Nursing Associate Programme in September 2019 and remain on programme for two years. No alternative dates can be arranged for interview or commencement of the programme.
