Pre-registration pharmacy technicians are essential to the continuing development of the pharmacy team. Working under appropriate supervision following a competence based learning program you will participate in the provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service within the Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will provide accurately dispensed medicines for inpatients, outpatients and discharge prescriptions from the main dispensary and satellite dispensaries at ward level. Successful candidates will rotate through the pharmacy department learning the different technical roles, and gain further understanding of manufacturing, issuing and stock control of medicines.

This two year training post is designed to give the trainee the technical experience and knowledge to be able to register and work as a Pharmacy Technician. To achieve this it requires participation and completion of a comprehensive training and competency program consisting of an NVQ level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills and BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF) which is taught at West Cheshire College on a day release basis. A commitment to study in your own time and attendance at all external study days is expected as part of this role.

Posts are 2 year fixed term contracts and will be rotational across the Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge General Hospital sites.

Applicants must have 4 GCSEs A to C grades to include Maths, English Language, Chemistry plus one other science subject (Dual Science Award accepted) in order to be eligible for college enrolment.

Candidates who successfully complete the 2 year course will then be eligible to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
