The job holder will be required to work a shift system including weekends and participate in the On Call rota.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint Band 6 Biomedical Scientists who have completed their specialist portfolio, or have equivalent experience, to join the dynamic and evolving team within the Microbiology Department at Watford General Hospital.

The Microbiology department is UKAS accredited and is accredited for training by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).We serve a population of approximately half a million and the laboratory processes over 420,000 tests per year providing a comprehensive diagnostic service including Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Infectious Disease Serology and Molecular testing. The department uses the Clinisys Winpath LIMS system and Gael Q-Pulse Quality Management System.

You will join our busy, professional and friendly team at an exciting time following substantial investment in laboratory technology including sediMAX for urine Microscopy, VIPER XTR for molecular testing, MALDI-TOF for organism identification and the BD Phoenix and BD Phoenix AP for identification and susceptibility testing, BD Bactec FX for blood cultures, BD MGIT 960 for TB culture and LIAISON XL for serology.

We are looking for strong team players with a positive attitude to working in a flexible manner, committed to supporting the clinical services of the Trust and meeting the needs of our patients. The job holder will be required to work a combination of early, core and late shifts and participate in the On Call rota.
