An exciting opportunity for a Diabetes Specialist Nurse OR a Senior Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN) to join our Diabetes Specialist Nursing Team has arisen. This post arises from the expansion of our service, to support with the provision of Flash Glucose Monitoring service to eligible patients in Herefordshire.

If a Senior DSN, the postholder will support the Lead diabetes specialist nurse in service delivery and developments and support of junior members in the team whilst also carrying a complex caseload and autonomous clinical practice.

Our team of DSNs works closely with members of the diabetes specialist team (consultants, diabetes dietitians, specialist podiatrist) to deliver a high quality diabetes service to patients across primary and secondary care.

This post considers either a band 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN) OR a Development Band 6/7 DSN role OR a band 7 Senior DSN role depending on experience and qualifications of successful applicant.

If you have no Diabetes Specialist Nursing experience this post would offer a band 6 Development opportunity into a Diabetes Specialist Nurse role, where we would support you to complete a postgraduate diploma in diabetes (willingness to complete this is essential). The expectation would be that you also completed WAND competencies band 6 within 12 months of appointment.

For a new to post Senior DSN the expectation is to have critical application of detailed knowledge in the field of diabetes and a postgraduate diploma in diabetes related field. Be an independent prescriber (or willing to complete training/qualification). Completion of WAND competencies band 7 within 12 months of appointment. Have management and leadership experience and responsibilities. Responsibility for developing and changing practice with advanced clinical responsibilities. Act as an accomplished educator.

If you are not yet a senior diabetes specialist nurse, but this is where you would like to develop your career towards then please consider this as a development role opportunity. This post can provide opportunity for development from a Band 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurse role to a Band 7 Senior Diabetes Specialist Nurse role upon completion of a postgraduate diploma in diabetes related field and review of relevant experience aligned with national TREND-UK Integrated Career and Competency Framework for Adult Diabetes Nursing. This development opportunity will provide support to enable the postholder to achieve necessary academic qualifications and competencies to progress to band 7 post. Willingness to undertake postgraduate studies in a Diabetes related field (if not done so already) is essential. Once band 7 role achieved there will still be ongoing developoment support in the role.
