Yes, this is an opportunity to use all of your clinical and interpersonal skills, and develop new skills and work with a unique population group who need your nursing skills. We work with children both boys and girls aged 10 - 18 that are on remand and don't know what their future holds, Young people that are on trial, young people that are sentenced, sometimes for life, for some it is the first time in a secure setting, for some it's their 3rd or 4th. We also work with some of the most vulnerable children in society that are placed with us for reasons of safety. Every person we work with could be someone's d ad / mum, son / daughter, husband / wife, brother / sister(even though they are young). Our job is not to judge, our job is to provide exceptional care with kindness and compassion. Health and wellbeing is one of the pathways to reducing re-offending. It could be through your interactions that changes the way a young person thinks about his future, thinks about his / her health needs, and feels about themselves and others. You could make a difference.

Working alongside the CAMHS and Substance misuse teams affords us the benefit of being able to work in a truly holistic manner, responding to the needs of both physical and mental well-being in partnership. Additionally, you will work with prison departments, including all the wing staff, education, safer custody, proba tion.

We need form you?
We are recruiting to a new developmental post, we are looking for a Nurse to complement our award winning Primary Healthcare Team delivering healthcare to very vulnerable and highly complex young people. As a passionate and committed registered nurse, you'll lead the team to achieve the best health and wellbeing outcomes through tailored interventions that ensure young people's health needs are met when they return to community setting or transfer to another secure environment. You will engage in the developmental process to become an excellent leader with the ability to make clinical decisions autonomously within a fast paced changing environment.

You will be a dynamic, positive person with good organisational skills. You will be creative and supportive, assisting in managing change within the service at a clinical and operational level. You will (following development) provide operational management to the primary care team; you will work alongside the current Primary Care Team Leaders and Primary Care Manager to provide the young people in our care with a comprehensive and high quality health service

As part of the new developmental post you will progress through a structured competency based training programme. The competencies will be achieved over time and demonstrated consistently via monthly one to one management supervision and appraisal.

Working and living in Leeds
HMP WYOI has excellent onsite facilities, with free parking, two staff gyms and a coffee shop. It is situated very close to the A1(M) with easy links to Leeds, Harrogate and York. As a city Leeds is a vibrant and diverse place to live and work. With recent openings of the First Direct Arena, Trinity Shopping Centre and Victoria Gate Centre Leeds is a great location for retail in the UK. As for well-being, Leeds is a very active city with numerous parks, gyms and nightlife and being clos e to the Yorkshire Dales, Leeds is an ideal place to balance city life near to the countryside.

If you are successful in being offered a position which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The level of check required is dependent upon the position that you have applied for. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48.83 or Standard £30) from your salary. There will be no charge if you are enrolled in the DBS Update Service.
