HMP Wetherby Young Offenders Institute (WYOI) is a secure male young person centre housing 336 young people aged between 15 & 18 years, and Adel Beck Secure Children's Home holds 24 young people (male and female) age 10-18 years. Leeds Community Healthcare have been providing healthcare here for over 10 years, meaning we have a unique understanding of children and young people's needs and the associated challenges and opportunities these bring.

We require an enthusiastic full time healthcare assistant to work within the healthcare team at both HMYOI Wetherby and Adel Beck Secure Children's Home in Leeds. The post holders will support a MDT in delivering healthcare services, to some very vulnerable and highly complex young people. Duties will include: supporting G.P clinics, taking part in health promotion sessions, Sexual health screening, biological sampling, immunisation administration, phlebotomy, recording o bservations and providing support to young people on wing based / Unit based locations. We are seeking to recruit staff who have a genuine desire to work with young people in a secure estate and who are passionate and committed to delivering high quality healthcare services that make a difference.

Experience of working with this client group and of working within a secure environment is desirable. You must hold the relevant NVQ level 3 or Care Certificate workbook qualification or experience at working as a Health Care Assistant at Band 2 or 3. A comprehensive induction package is provided, including any training that may be required. HMP WYOI has excellent onsite facilities, with free parking, two staff gyms and a coffee shop. It is situated very close to the A1(M) with easy links to Leeds, Harrogate and York. Wetherby grew up as a half-way staging post for travellers on the Great North Road between London and Edinburgh. It has since developed into a busy market town, it boasts specialist craft shops, quaint tearooms and restaurants. It makes a wonderful, centra l base for days out to the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors and the East Coast.




If you are successful in being offered a position which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The level of check required is dependent upon the position that you have applied for. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48.83 or Standard £30) from your salary. There will be no charge if you are enrolled in the DBS Update Service.
