Fancy a change of scenery?

Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust have an amazing opportunity for a dentist who is interested in developing their clinical expertise with children and adults with special needs.

Our dentists have challenging, stimulating careers and a work-life balance like nowhere else. At work, they’re part of a supportive team, in roles that deliver everything you would want from a dental career. In their spare time, they are out surfing, hiking, biking and enjoying the most amazing scenery that Devon has to offer, with beautiful beaches and dramatic moorland just a stone’s throw away.

The Salaried Dental Service in Devon has a mission to provide excellent dental care to those who have special needs, or those who have an emergency and do not have a regular general dental practitioner. The service also provides oral health training to patients and care workers who are responsible for the mouths of both adults and children.

This role offers the opportunity to actively participate in service improvement projects within a suportive environment as well as providing training and development in the provision of dental care for people with special needs.

NDHT offers integrated acute and community services across Devon. Our acute hospital is big enough to provide real opportunities for innovation and research, but small enough for your work to make a real impact. We have close-knit teams with quick lines of communication and that means we make things happen. Our salaried dental service also has close links with hospital consultants, professional care services and clinical training programmes providing opportunities for continuing professional development and research.

We perform highly against clinical standards, have a proven track record of staff satisfaction and meet our financial targets, so our clinicians can focus on giving great care to patients.

The Devon Salaried Dental Service operates within 7 locations based across Exeter, East, Mid and North Devon and incorporates five broad work streams including; special care, general anaesthesia and sedation, urgent care, oral surgery, oral health promotion and oral screening and epidemiology.

The service is supported by a highly motivated, multidisciplinary team of dentists, dental therapists, hygienists, post graduate trainees, dental nurses and admin staff. We are looking for GDC-registered dentists who have a keen interest in developing their clinical expertise in Special Care Dentistry in North Devon. If you are excited by the opportunity to expand your clinical, research or educational skills, in beautiful surroundings, with great support from a committed team, then we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Dan Knibb, Lead Dentist, - 01392 405712 or Sue Smith, Specialist Services Manager – 01392 356907 for an informal chat about how you can develop your career with us.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
