Return to Practice

Are you a qualified Nurse whose registration has lapsed?

Would you like to return to nursing?

Solent NHS Trust are offering a limited number of clinical placement opportunities for applicants to the University of Southampton return to practice programme which commences in January 2020. Any offer will be subject to an interview which will take place late October 2019, references, DBS check and OH clearances.

To be eligible for this you will need to:

  • Commit to attending the theoretical (level 6) aspects of the module with the University of Southampton, usually half a day per week.
  • Undertake clinical practice - minimum of 150 hours. The shifts will usually be two shifts per week on an honorary/supernumerary basis to enable you to concentrate on your learning needs. You will also need to demonstrate evidence of experiencing care delivered 24/7, to make the placement a worthwhile learning experience.
  • Have a lapsed registration with the NMC.

In your clinical placement you will be provided with a ‘sign off’ mentor to support you in your exciting new journey. Once you have successfully re-joined the register you will be encouraged to apply for band 5 roles within Solent NHS Trust and will be supported through our Preceptorship programme, and on-going professional development.

The course is fully funded by Health Education Wessex with additional financial support of £500 towards travel and learning resources.

Please make clear in your supporting information:

  • When your original registration expired with the NMC
  • In which field of nursing you were registered ie Adult, Child, Mental Health, Learning Disability
  • Please be aware that as this is a joint application process your application will be shared with Southampton University.

An example of a generic Band 5 Job Description and Person Specification has been added for reference only.

Please note: We are not in a position to support any NMC conditions of practice requirements

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
