General Practice Clinical Pharmacists

We have an exciting opportunity for clinical pharmacists to work in GP practices within the three Cheltenham Primary Care Networks (PCN’s).

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.

If you were successful, you will have a chance to help develop the role of clinical pharmacists in General Practice which includes the opportunity for innovation and service design, combined with the benefits of being a valued part of an established primary care team. You will join a group of pharmacists who provide active support and who have now been working closely together for more than two years supporting all our practices across Cheltenham. All our surgeries use the SystmOne GP computer system supported by the Ardens templates and formularies.

We are recruiting up to four whole-time equivalent or near whole-time (minimum .5) equivalent pharmacist (hours flexible) who are keen to develop their career as GP practice-based pharmacists. The role will involve the management of long-term conditions, face to face and telephone medication reviews, medicines quality improvement & safety and the implementation of local and national guidelines and formulary recommendations. You will also provide leadership on quality improvement projects and clinical audit, as well as managing some aspects of the Quality and Outcomes Framework.

Applicants will have a good clinical background and excellent presentation and communication skills as well as an appreciation of the change management principles required to support safe, evidence-based, clinically and cost effective prescribing. Previous experience of working in a GP practice is desirable but not essential. They will be computer literate; confident in working independently; able to prioritise workload and have an understanding of project management skills. They will be well organised, self-motivated and work well as part of a team. The posts will require some travel within Cheltenham and its outskirts.

Three successful applicants will be employed by GDoc Ltd, on behalf of the GP Cheltenham Central and Peripheral Networks and one pharmacist will be employed direct by the Cheltenham St Paul’s Network. There will be no requirement to perform clinical work outside the Cheltenham area, but post-holders may occasionally be required to attend meetings or training elsewhere in Gloucestershire.

GDoc is the GP provider consortium for Gloucestershire; all employees are eligible for the NHS pension scheme. St Paul’s Network will provide an equivalent employment package.
