We have an exciting and pioneering opportunity for dynamic registered nurses to work across our endoscopy unit and gastroenterology ward on a monthly rotation basis at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). This is an ideal opportunity to develop an enhanced knowledge of gastroenterology conditions and skills in their management and treatment.

You do not need previous medical and endoscopy nursing experience, as we will provide full training and support.

Both areas are fast paced and challenging environments, constantly modernising to deliver high quality services within current healthcare demands, however in return it does provide an exciting opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.

About the departments:

- Our gastroenterology and liver unit is made of 3 wards.

- The endoscopy unit has 6 rooms currently developing the facility to carry out general anaesthetic (GA)

procedures within the unit.

  • You will be working alongside a wide range of leading clinicians in the gastroenterology field, including specialist teams providing pioneering treatment and research.
  • Is a tertiary referral centre, taking complex patients from across the region
  • Is a GI bleed centre, taking emergency referrals from neighbouring hospitals
  • Participates in a variety of research programmes
  • Endoscopy is a JAG accredited training centre
  • Have an excellent reputation for innovation and development

This is an ideal opportunity for those who wish to develop their career within the gastroenterology specialty as this position will give you a focused skill base. Nurses in both areas have previously continued their careers in:

  • Nursing management.
  • Specialist nurse roles for example - gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel diseases, heptology, nurse endoscopist, endoscopy therapeutic and capsule endoscopy specialist nurse.
  • Education roles - education skills facilitators.
  • Operational role.
