Critical Care

A job isn’t a job, it’s who you are!

We are recruiting now for enthusiastic Critical Care Health Care Support Workers to be part of our excellent nursing teams who will take us forward to our new state-of-the art and purpose built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in April 2018.

Would you like to be part of the team who provide care for critically ill patients during the varying stages of their stay on critical care? We have a variety of patients with different needs. Some have just had open heart surgery and progress quickly over the first 24 hours before returning to the wards to continue that recovery. Some have complex issues and stay on critical for a much longer time allowing the opportunity for staff to build supportive relationships with their patients. These patients may have mechanical devices supporting their heart and lungs and may be undergoing transplant surgery. They and their families need the skill, competence and compassion of the team to help them through this time.

You could be part of this team.

Things can change quickly and you will be part of the team who may be providing nursing care one moment and be called to assist in an emergency situation the next. It is challenging but rewarding and you are always working within the team supervised and supported by senior colleagues.

We support our Health Care Support Worker team with ongoing training. Some of our qualified nurses started with us as Health Care Support Workers, undergoing their nurse training whilst working with us. We value you in our team whether you wish to continue as Health care Support Worker or continue to train to be a qualified member of the health care team. We have a dedicated teaching team, including Health Care Support workers, to support you in whatever you wish to do.

The Trust provides support for all healthcare support workers to complete mandatory training including the Care Certificate and a Clinical Apprenticeship. We now offer a progression pathway, giving training and support to advance to band 3 and 4 positions (criteria apply).

If this sounds like what you are looking for-please get in touch with us!

Selection Day takes place on a Saturday from 09:00 until 16:00. The selection process includes a literacy & numeracy test, a written exercise, a scenario, group and individual interviews.

** We reserve the right to close this vacancy once sufficient applications have been received**

Priority consideration will be given to NHS Employees who have been declared at risk of redundancy.

The support and benefits available to staff include:
NHS Pension Scheme, extensive retail discount scheme, subsidised restaurant, staff recognition and award scheme, membership options at Frank Lee Centre Leisure & Fitness (campus gym), salary sacrifice 'cycle to work' and 'car' scheme, enhanced pay progression for Band 5 nurses, career progression opportunities, flexible working

We welcome all applications irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation. Applicants with disabilities will be offered an interview providing they meet the minimum criteria for the post. The Trust operates job share and flexible working. We are a Smoke Free Hospital.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Border Agency requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Border Agency website.
