Senior Staff Nurse Band 6 in Older Persons Assessment Unit at Guy's Hospital.

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated registered nurse with proven clinical skills and a special interest in care of older people to join a well developed and supportive multidisciplinary team to care for our local population.

The post is based in the Older Persons Assessment Unit at Guy’s hospital. The unit provides the setting for a number of specialised clinics which include falls, heart failure, continence, pre operative assessment, dietetics and the comprehensive geriatric assessment clinics that see older people for which there isn’t either a clear medical problem or for whom the complexity of the problem warrants a general and holistic review. The intention is that the patient should be seen once and then care handed over to the GP and we are increasingly using community services such as the @home team to support patients who have attended the clinic. We also have daily infusion/ transfusion appointments plus a TWOC clinic. Therefore your clinical knowledge and skills are used in a variety of ways to ensure that patients benefit from one appointment ie. holistic assessment, ECG, bloods, bladder scanning, spirometry, dopplers and assessments of cognition. There are physiotherapists and an occupational therapist in the team.

You must be organised, confident and have excellent communication skills to enable you to liaise effectively with the multi disciplinary team and work with a diverse and varied group of patients and carers. Experience with managing a caseload autonomously is required.
