We have approximately 855 beds trust-wide and our financial turnover is in excess of £337m.

The Wirral is easily accessible to major airports and has excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.


We are looking for outstanding individuals to join our current team of enthusiastic and forward thinking acute physicians within Acute Medicine at Wirral University Teaching Hospital.

Wirral University Teaching Hospitals serves a population of 400,000. It is one of the biggest and busiest acute NHS Trusts in the North West, employing more than 6,000 members of staff. It is located in the northwest, in close proximity to Liverpool and Chester.

We are looking for dynamic individuals to progress the development of a well-established ambulatory care service, which incorporates a busy assessment area consisting of 20 assessment chairs and six trolleys and a 23-bedded acute medical unit. The unit assesses on average around 500-600 emergency medical attendances per week. It is well supported and has close working relationships with the other medical specialities and our emergency department. Timely and easily accessible diagnostics enable prompt assessment and support safe patient discharge and efficient functioning of a daily ambulatory care clinic.

The unit prides itself on being innovative and bringing in new initiatives such as point of care ultrasound, to aid the prompt assessment and management of patients. The trust has invested in one of the most advanced IT electronic patient record systems to enable improved delivery of care and is an exemplar for IT across the NHS.

The Trust is committed to improving and delivering excellent patient centred care and development of the Acute medical unit and team is pivotal to achieve this goal.
