Lead Breast Screening Radiography and work in one of the largest expanding Breast Screening Services Nationally.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust hosts two London Breast Screening Services that form part of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme. The North London Breast Screening Service (NLBSS) based at Edgware Community Hospital and the Central and East London Breast Screening Service (CELBSS) based at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Site, Barbican.

As such the combined services have an eligible population of over 370,000 and provide breast screening and assessment services for women across Barnet, Brent, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow and the southern half of West Hertfordshire in relation to NLBSS. Camden, Islington, City & Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest in relation to CELBSS. The eligible population are invited for screening on a rotating basis across a three year period.

The screening is currently provided at a combination of mobile and static screening units, all central London units are static and the North London service is a combination of both. Assessment services are currently provided at the Edgware and St. Bartholomew sites.

This is a progressive and expanding service that is friendly, supportive and offers a high quality of service to its clients and patients. The Royal Free is a flagship host Trust offering the most modern technology available both in breast screening and assessment. NLBSS and CELBSS work closely with over 15 symptomatic breast care providers who we refer patients to for onwards care.

The contract for CELBSS commenced under the Royal Free Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in April 2018. This increased the eligible population and planned activity levels for the combined services by around 50% on previous year’s activity. This service development has led to the need for an expanding team and the role of a cross site Deputy Superintendent Radiographer is one of great importance.

The post holder would be expected to work cross site as required and lead a growing and dynamic team across both screening services.

An opportunity exists for a suitably experienced and innovative radiographer with extensive experience to join our renowned multi-professional team, with a reputation for achieving clinical excellence. You will provide strong leadership and motivation to the radiographic staff and contribute as a key member of the senior management team. This will be a challenging but rewarding role and you will be fully encouraged and supported in your professional development. You will also be supported by a Superintendent Radiographer and second Deputy Superintendent Radiographer. This position will offer the variety and the opportunity to work in a stimulating and developing area.

Due to the sensitive nature of this post, only female applicants can be considered, this is in line with the defined exceptions in the Equality Act 2010, known as Genuine Occupational Requirements (GOQ).

All applicants must have valid UK HPC (Health Professions Council) registration and hold the postgraduate qualification (M level or equivalent) in Mammography. Post qualification experience in screening mammography and assessment is desirable but not essential

Part time applicants will be considered should they have the required skills and experience.
