Nurse practitioner

Job Reference: 188-NM1153

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Surgical pre operative assessment clinic
Southampton General Hospital, Southampton
£30,401 - £37,267 pa pro rata

We have exciting opportunities for highly motivated and professional nurse practitioners to join our surgical pre-assessment team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). We welcome full time or part time applicants seeking 30 hours per week or more.

Our nurse practitioners are dedicated to improving the patient experience and play a pivotal role in the patient’s clinical optimisation for their elective surgical journey. Clinical responsibilities include history taking, physical assessment, ordering and reviewing investigations and advising on the management of long term medications in the pre -operative period.

The pre-assessment unit is an independent nurse led outpatient clinic which is responsible for the pre operative assessment and preparation of elective surgical patients under the care of 8 different surgical specialities. We see over a 1000 patients a month, running clinics Monday to Friday.

This would be an ideal opportunity for an ambitious nurse to gain valuable experience in patient assessment, working as an autonomous practitioner within nurse led clinics and would provide professional foundation to expand practice.

Applicants must have senior band 5 or band 6 experience, either within an acute surgical setting or from areas with transferrable skills.

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to work independently as well as part of a team and be committed to high standards of care. IT skills are essential.

As part of your induction you will get protected supernumerary time and a tailor made training package devised and delivered by our clinical lead with ongoing support from the theatre education team.

We've been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission and in the national NHS Staff Survey we ranked seventh in the country for staff engagement and fourth best nationally for our proportion of staff saying that they would recommend the hospital as a place to work or to receive care.
