Cambridge Centre for Lung Infections

Ward 4 South Royal Papworth hospital in Cambridge

Band 5 staff nurse

In our brand new state of the art hospital we will be delivering ambulatory care to patients with Cystic Fibrosis and non CF Bronchiectasis on our Cambridge Centre for Lung Infection (CCLI) specialist ward 4 south.

Our care pathways for patients with recurrent lung infections focus on enabling patients to self-care and self-manage their condition wherever possible. We support patients to recognise respiratory infections and commence their rescue treatments through patient education and access to expert advice through our telephone support services. We also have a dedicated Home IV Antibiotic training programme to enable patients and their carers to learn how to administer treatments at home. Patients on this treatment pathway attend the ward for clinical follow up as part of their treatment episodes.

The CCLI nursing team rotate through a series of supportive roles within this setting; teaching patients to administer IV antibiotic regimes, inserting mid lines for venous access, accessing and caring for indwelling port-a-caths and PICC line care. They also provide patient advice and guidance through the telephone support services.
