GPs with an Extended Role in Gynaecology

During 2019, Modality Community Services will be expanding, providing opportunities for staff to train and upskill in new areas and bringing outpatient care closer to home for patients.

To support this expansion, we are looking for GPs who are either currently practicing as, or, wish to develop their knowledge and experience as GPs with extended roles (GPwERs) in Gynaecology. The roles will offer the opportunity for candidates to gain exposure to the future models for delivering hospital services within primary care, using new technologies and through integrated working with local hospital providers.

The overarching objectives of the gynaecology service are to:

  • Improve patient experience by providing easy access to a community-based service and quicker access to a Gynaecologist when they need it
  • Improving efficiency and reducing the number of visits for patients by providing ultrasound investigations and specialist advice in a single appointment
  • Deliver a Consultant supervised model with streamlined pathways where patients require onward referral
  • Improved service efficiency through a local, cost effective alternative to secondary care
  • Improve access to additional diagnostics within the community setting e.g. hysteroscopies and ultrasound
  • Improve integration with secondary care through provision of a community-based service supported by local consultants
  • Deliver better value for money for the NHS
  • Reduce demand on secondary care and shorten waiting times for those patients that need to be seen in a hospital setting

The postholder(s) will work within one of our Walsall GP sites and our Gynaecology service clinics located within Walsall
